- Ransomware Protection via Immutable Cloud Storage: Immutability for cloud storage enables tamper-proof data while under the defined policy so that backup data cannot be erased or modified by any user including administrators or root users. Immutable storage provides an extra level of security and recoverability in the event of a ransomware breach.
- Augmented In-Line Deduplication: Altaro's in-line deduplication sends only changed data to backup devices, reducing network traffic, cutting backup storage requirements, and improving performance. Altaro's deduplication applies to data on lone VMs as well as on multiple virtual machines.
- Continuous Data Protection (CDP): Rather than scheduling one-a-day backups, you can schedule backup intervals to as short as five minutes to lower your Recovery Point Objective (RPO).
- Concurrent Backups: You can back up multiple virtual machines simultaneously, which makes it possible to conduct backup operations during briefer low-activity time windows while the most network bandwidth is open and workload performance is less urgent.
- Live/Hot Backup: Integration with Volume Shadow Copy Service permits you to back up VMs without incurring downtime.
- Cluster Shared Volumes and VMware vCenter: The ability to protect virtual machines running in a Hyper-V Failover Cluster (with or without Cluster Shared Volumes) or within a VMware vCenter environment supports large-scale implementations.
- Offsite Replication: To assist with business recovery, you can deploy Altaro's Offsite Server utility on an external server for storing a copy of your backups at a different location.
- Flexible Scheduling and Retention Policies: You can set different backup schedules and retention policies for individual VMs.
Backup scheduling and retention options for Altaro VM Backup are easy to set up, review and edit - Application Specific Backups: Altaro can use Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service and all VSS Writers working inside the protected virtual machine when making a backup. Applications including Microsoft Exchange and Microsoft SQL will be aware the backup has happened and automatically proceed with the appropriate maintenance tasks such as truncating virtual log files.
- Military-Class Encryption: Prior to copying your data to a backup device, you have the ability to encrypt it using the AES-256 standard.
- Virtual Disk Exclude: You can select which Virtual Disks to include or exclude in your virtual machine backups.
- Grandfather-Father-Son Archiving: On top of your continuous and daily backups, you can implement an additional schedule to make and archive a new backup copy each week, month and year.
- Cloud Backup to Azure: Altaro allows backup to a Microsoft Azure Block Blob storage account, which is the most affordable storage option available on the Microsoft Azure cloud.
Altaro Virtual Machine Backup allows you to protect VMs hosted on-site, remotely or in a public cloud - Cloud Backup to Amazon S3 and Wasabi: Altaro VM Backup VM Backup allows native backup to Amazon S3 and Wasabi clouds. No extra resources running in the cloud are necessary to support backup storage.
- Back up to multiple offsite datacenters: For improved robustness, you can create copies of virtual machines on multiple remote sites including multiple clouds like Azure and Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3).
Altaro VM Backup VM Backup offers a rich toolset for point-in-time recovery of virtual machines and data files that have been copied on schedule and need to be recovered. In the event of a disaster, Altaro VM Backup VM Backup has utilities for rapidly recovering a complete site from the most recent replicated version protected offsite.
- Restore as Clone: You can recover a virtual machine backup to a new destination with a new name, allowing the cloned virtual machine to operate alongside the original virtual machine. This eliminates the necessity to write over active VMs.
- Restore to Different Host: You can recover a VM backup to a different host. The virtual machine can be recovered from the on-prem backup location, or directly from the offsite copy location. (You may not cross-restore between Hyper-V and VMware.)
- Boot from Backup: You can immediately boot any virtual machine version from the backup location for testing or to create a significant reduction in Recovery Time Objective (RTO) in a disaster recovery event.
- File-Level Restore: You can quickly restore individual files and folders from any virtual machine backup.
- WAN-Optimized Replication: You can create ongoing copies of your VMs to a different location and transfer immediately to the copy site in case a calamity disables your primary virtual machines. This can significantly reduce your RTO and get your organization back online quickly.
- Exchange Item-Level Restore: You can recover individual emails from the Exchange Mailbox database.
Altaro Virtual Machine Backup allows you to restore individual emails from an Exchange Mailbox database - Recover Different Versions: You can restore from multiple points in time instead of being limited to the latest backup copy.
- Sandbox Restores and Testing: You can program or launch by hand tests to confirm the integrity of your backup data. You can verify backup folders without connecting the VM to your Hyper-V or VMware host, or you can run a complete confirmation recovery to a replicant and verify that the restored virtual machine can boot.
- Backup Health Monitor: Backup storage integrity can be monitored proactively and fixed automatically as part of the next backup operation.
The web-based Cloud Management Console centralizes management, monitoring and reporting for Altaro VM Backup deployments. The CMC provides a single online portal for tasks such as launching backups, establishing on-premises and remote backup sites, defining encryption keys, and recovering VMs. The Cloud Management Console also conserves time by allowing you to build custom templates with schedules, retention policies and advanced settings and assign them to various VMs across a selection of hosts.
